Remembering our past…

Celebrating God’s present…as a family

Since the 1930's, the Drive-In Movie theaters have covered America's landscape. In 1958, there were over 5,000 Drive-In Theaters across the country. It was the main event for family entertainment. However, from their heyday in the late 50's until the mid 90's, the drive-in craze all but ended.

Today, the Drive-In has re-emerged as a great form of family entertainment. But the constant problem remains: there are never any family (or anyone for that matter...) appropriate movies which are playing in the theaters. What if a church took on the challenge? What would happen if a church created the nostalgic, family-centered atmosphere of the Drive-In Theater and ensured only quality films suitable for family viewing were shown? Zion decided to find out.

Family-Friendly Movies with a God-Honoring Purpose

Zion Drive-in theater

Is this even legal??

ABSOLUTELY.  Zion is a licensed theater and has all the rights to legally show movies from over 400 producers.  For more information on our license, go to www.cvli.com.

How much does it cost to attend?

The Zion Drive-In movies are absolutely FREE.  No Charge.  Zip.  Nada.  Zilch.  Just come and enjoy a good movie with others in the Treynor community.

Do I Have to Stay in my car to watch?

No.  While some in attendance choose to stay in their vehicles to maintain the true “drive-in” environment, others choose to sit on lawn chairs and blankets.

What movies are shown?

A variety of family-friendly movies are shown at the Zion Drive-In Theater.  Some are classics.  Some are new releases.  All guarantee great family fun!

But even “family” movies have language and rude humor.  How do you deal with that?

Zion has acquired a filtering DVD player, which takes normal DVD’s but filters out language, sensuality, and other objectionable content.  A company called “ClearPlay” has perfected this process.  Filters are downloaded to a USB Drive which is then inserted into the special DVD player.  The bad content is removed or muted, and many times you don’t even realize anything was removed.  This special DVD player also upconverts the video stream to 1080p, so our movies are shown in High-Definition.

Enough on movies...will there be POPCORN??

Yes.  We serve hot, fresh popcorn as well as a variety of sodas, snacks, candy, and bottled water.  All items at the concession stand are $0.50.  All of the money goes towards the Zion Youth as one of their fundraising activities.  Zion’s Youth Pastor and our high school students typically man the concession area during each movie.

What do you use for projecting the movies?

We use a Vivitek D940VX DLP projector, and it works great!!  It has 4,000 Lumens, a 2400:1 Contrast Ratio, and is fully HD.

What do you use for a screen?

Zion had a church family engineer a beautiful screen for us.  Our screen size is a whopping 16’ x 9’.  We’ve heard it’s like being at a real theater.

How about sound?  Can you actually hear the action?

The Zion Drive-In Theater features around 3,500 Watts of mind-blowing sound, fully stereo (used respectfully for our neighbors, of course!!).  Our promise is that you won’t have any trouble hearing (or feeling) the movies.
